FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's swim team (2-6) won
eight events Saturday in a narrow 102-100 triumph over Gallaudet
University (3-5) Saturday at the Huntsinger Aquatics Center.
Kristen Kucharski paced the field in the 1000 free (12:31.59)
and the 100 free (1:02.72) and was second in the 50 free by the
closest of margins (28.78).
Arielle Harding overtook GU's Carly Robinson in the breaststroke
leg of the 200 IM to take the event in 2:25.48 and cruised to
another win in the 100 breast (1:19.05).
Daniela Mittelkamp touched wall first in the 200 free (2:21.51)
and the 500 free (6:11.95, season best).
Andrea Haines finished third in three events--the 1000 free
(14:08.53), the 500 free (6:57.41) and the 200 IM (2:55.54).
Dominique Osterman came in fourth in the 200 free (3:20.35),
fifth in the 100 free (1:31.97, season best) and fifth in the 100
breast (1:41.62, season best).
Jennifer Givens placed fourth in the 50 free (30.14), while
Lacey Creelman took third in the 100 fly (1:20.73) and Melissa
Lapham was second in the 100 back (1:14.91).
Hood also won both relays. The 200 medley squad of Creelman,
Lapham, Mittelkamp and Givens clocked a time of 2:13.30 while
Givens, Lapham, Creelman and Harding won the 200 free relay in
1:55.61.
Hood's final home meet of the season is slated for next Saturday
against Penn State Altoona and Juniata at 2 p.m. The Blazers will
honor senior Kristen Kucharski before the meet.
