RADNOR, Pa.--The Hood College women's swim team (3-0) swept a
double dual against Cabrini (77-18) and Pitt-Bradford (71-24) in
nonconference action Saturday afternoon.
Hood earned first place finishes in 10 of the 11 contested
events and posted two record-setting swims in the process.
The 200 medley relay squad of Caitlin Fay, Lauren Fogarty,
Shannon McHale and Brittany Whitham started the meet off by
lowering the team record set last weekend at Arcadia by 0.09
seconds in a time of 1:58.57 (the previous record was 1:58.66 by
McHale, Lauren Knutson, Fogarty and Whitham).
McHale also broke a 22-year-old team record in the 100 fly with
a time of 1:01.82, besting the previous school record of 1:03.40
(N. Cairns, 1990). She also won the 50 free in 27.24.
Knutson bested the field in the 100 free (1:00.03) and was
touched out in the 1000 free by Pitt-Bradford's Melinda Mackenzie
by 0.08 seconds (11:40.70).
Fay was a winner in the 100 back (1:03.50) and the 200 free
(2:05.02), touching the wall just ahead of teammate Whitham by 0.43
seconds (2:05.45).
Fogarty was a double winner in the 200 IM (2:19.63) and the 100
breast (1:12.95), while Whitham won the 500 free (5:34.14).
The 200 free relay team of Theresa Schwarzwalder, Meg Blodgett,
Brenna Elizondo and Knutson took top honors with a clocking of
1:54.36.
Hood journeys to Middle Atlantic Conferences opponent Lycoming
College for its next meet Saturday at 2 p.m.
