GRANTHAM, Pa.--The Hood College women's swim team (5-3, 3-3 MAC)
went 1-2 in a Middle Atlantic Conferences quad meet Saturday,
defeating FDU-Florham, 192-39, but coming up short against Widener,
85-176, and Messiah, 84-177.
Hood's Lauren Fogarty broke the team record in the 200 free that
stood since 1985 with a time of 2:02.63, good for third place in
the race. Hood Athletic Hall of Famer Kathleen King Kinsey held the
previous record of 2:03.00 for the past 27 years. Fogarty also won
the 100 breast in 1:12.68, just 0.14 seconds ahead of Widener's
Sara Leonelli, and swam a season-best in the 50 fly (28.17,
third).
Season-bests were also recorded by Brittany Whitham in the 1000
free (11:21.54, second) and 500 free (5:31.26, fourth); Lauren
Knutson in the 200 free (2:10.59, sixth) and the 50 breast (36.46,
fifth); Brenna Elizondo in the 50 breast (40.58, 11th), 100 breast
(1:28.00, 11th) and the 100 free (1:05.53, 10th); Lindsay Cronin in
the 50 breast (38.13, 10th) and the 500 free (5:47.68, eighth);
Daniela Mittelkamp in the 100 fly (1:13.02, 10th) and the 100 free
(1:07.82, 12th) and Caitlin Fay in the 500 free (5:30.01,
second).
Additionally, the 200 free relay team of Fogarty, Whitham, Fay
and McHale posted a season-best in 1:48.54, good for third.
Hood's next scheduled meet against MAC rival Lebanon Valley
College has been postponed but will be rescheduled for a date to be
announced in January. The Blazers will next travel to King's
College (Pa.) for a MAC dual meet Saturday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m.
