FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College men's swim team defended its home pool with a 162-101 win over visiting Arcadia in the Blazers' home opener.
BJ Daisey (Lewes, Del./Sussex Tech) swam an impressive 1:02.35 to win the 100 breaststroke by over seven seconds. Connor Eliff (Frederick, Md./Frederick) was second in the event in 1:09.69. Daisey scored another win in the 200 breaststroke in 2:19.88, defeating the competition by nearly 18 seconds. Eliff again took second, this time in 2:37.03. Teammate Kenny Garced-Valle (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) was third in 2:42.57.
In all, Hood won eight of the 14 events on the afternoon, including four of the first five events of the meet.
Hood scored a victory in the 200 medley relay in 1:41.94 behind the foursome of Alex Bodine (Frederick, Md./Urbana), Eliff, Daulton Swan (Farmington, Utah), and Lucas Mestas-Nunez (Corpus Christi, Texas/Bluff) in the day's first event.
Cameron Rogers (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding) followed with his first win of the day in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:12.02. Rogers' second victory of the day came in the 500 freestyle as Hood produced the first, second and third place finishers in the event. Rogers was the victor in 5:02.70. Michael Curry (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) was second in 5:08.52 and Chris Gardner (Smyrna, Del./Cab Calloway School of the Arts) captured third in 5:09.25.
Bodine was a winner in the 100 backstroke when he touched the wall in 55.66. He later led the Blazers to a 1-2-3 finish in the 50 freestyle. The junior won in 22.46, followed by Victor Muleki (Irving, Texas) and Mestas-Nunez. Bodine had a second place finish to his credit in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:08.64, while Scott Clark (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./American Heritage) was third in the event in 2:09.08.
Hood polished off the win in the final event of the meet, the 200 freestyle relay. Muleki, Jonathan Collier (Darby, Pa./Home Schooled), Alesio Mario (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional), and Curry won with their time of 1:33.90.
In the 200 freestyle, Gardner was second in 1:50.35. Curry swam a 50.83 in the 100 freestyle to take second place.
Hood hits the water again on November 2 when Lycoming comes to town for a dual meet.
