FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College picked up its third straight win as the Blazers defeated visiting Elizabethtown 121-84 at the Huntsinger Aquatics Center.
Lauren Fogarty (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) and Caitlin Fay (Henrico, Va. / Mills E. Godwin) were each involved three event wins to lead nine Hood swimmers that scored victories on the evening.
Hood led off the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay behind the efforts of Shannon McHale (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppage), Shannon Welch (Henderson, Nev. / Las Vegas Acad. of the Arts), Fogarty and Anne Lessard (Natick, Mass. / Natick). The quartet teamed to swim a 4:20.48 for the victory.
Fogarty made it back-to-back event wins with her time of 11:12.58 in the 1,000 freestyle to help the Blazers to the early lead in the team scoring. Her excellence in the distance freestyle events continued with a 5:24.24 in the 500 for the win.
Fay swam a 2:05.19 for the victory in the 200 free. She later led the way as Hood took the top three spots in the 100 backstroke. Fay took the win with a time of 1:04.89, with McHale and Theresa Schwarzwalder (Columbia, Md. / Columbia) on her heels.
Fay also swam a leg of the winning 200 free relay. She was joined by Erin Honeycutt (Gainesville, Fla. / Gainesville), Sydney Langer (Falls Church, Va. / Falls Church), and Ashley Griffin (Littlestown, Pa. / Delone Catholic) for the winning entry of 1:49.23.
In addition to her leg on the victorious 400 medley relay, McHale notched an individual win in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:03.09.
Welch added an individual win to her tally, but had to squeak past Honeycutt and Schwarzwalder in the 200 individual medley. Welch won in 2:27.26, just 0.63 seconds ahead of Honeycutt. Schwarzwalder captured third in 2:28.52, just over a second off the pace.
Hood improved to 4-1 with the win, including 3-0 against conference opponents.
The Blazers head to Messiah for a quad-meet including Widener and FDU-Florham on November 9.
