Win Streak Snapped Against Lions; Rogers Sets Record in 1,000 Free

FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College entered its dual meet with Albright in the midst of an eight-meet win streak dating back to mid-October, but the undefeated Lions stopped the Blazers 167-95 at the Huntsinger Aquatics Center.

The loss was Hood's first to a Division III opponent this year with the Blazers other defeat coming to Division I Towson on the first day of the season. Hood had also won all six home meets since its home facility was renovated and had won 11 in a row in its home pool going all the way back to January of 2011.

Freshman Cameron Rogers (Severn, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) gave Hood its first win of the afternoon with a record-setting performance in the 1,000-yard freestyle. He turned in time of 9:59.15 to become the first Blazer to break the 10-minute barrier in the event. Rogers shaved over seven seconds off the previous mark, set by teammate Michael Curry (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Catholic) last season.

Rogers later added a victory in the 500 free with a time of 4:55.77.

Classmate BJ Daisey (Lewes, Del. / Sussex Tech) joined Rogers with two wins on the day, while junior Alex Bodine (Frederick, Md. / Urbana) had a win and two runner up finishes.

Daisey was victorious both of the breaststroke events. He claimed the 100-yard in 1:02.22 and took the 200 in 2:17.13.

Bodine had the winning time of 53.98 in the 100-yard butterfly for his only win of the day. Earlier in the meet, he was edged by just 0.24 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.69. He also was awarded second in the 50 free with his time of 23.19.

Chris Gardner (Smyrna, Del. / Cab Calloway School of the Arts) finished second in the 200 back with his time of 2:03.63.

Both of the Blazers' relays finished second. Garner, Daisey, Bodine and Lucas Mestas-Nunez (Corpus Christi, Texas / Bluff) fell by less than a second in the day's first event, the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet turned in a time of 1:41.29, just 0.65 behind Albright's winning time.

The foursome of Curry, Connor Eliff (Frederick, Md. / Frederick), Alessio Mario (Mullica Hill, N.J. / Clearview Regional) and Jonathan Collier (Darby, Pa. / Home Schooled) took second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:32.30.

Hood falls to 9-2 and is 7-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference, while Albright improved to 9-0 overall and 6-0 against MAC competition.

The Blazers return to the pool when they host Davis & Elkins College on Senior Day in the Huntsinger Aquatics Center on January 18.
