FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's swimming team lost its first meet in the new year 184-75 against Albright College this afternoon in Midde Atlantic Conference action.
The loss drops the Blazers to 6-5 and 5-3 in the conference.
Lauren Fogarty (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) led Hood with two victories, winning the 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley. She also earned a second place in the 200-yard butterfly. In the breaststroke she touched the wall in 2:37.62, more than two seconds ahead of the competition. She had a margin of victory of over two seconds again in the IM with her time of 2:19.31. In the butterfly she was 0.04 behind first place with a time of 2:18.98.
Caitlin Fay (Henrico, Va. / Mills E. Godwin) earned two second place finishes and added on a third place finish as well. In the 1,000-yard freestyle she swam a time of 11:25.45, and added a 2:21.27 in the 200-yard backstroke. Fay finished just over three seconds behind second place in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 2:05.36.
Ashley Griffin (Littlestown, Pa. / Delone Catholic) also finished in second in two races and added a fourth behind Fay in the 200 free (2:07.10). In the 50-yard freestyle she touched the wall in 26:39, less than half a second behind the winner. Griffin swam a 57.10 in the 100-yard freestyle to pace the Blazers.
Shannon McHale (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge) swam her way to a pair of second place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke. In the butterfly she touched the wall in 1:04.67, and finished in 1:03.51 in the backstroke.
Anne Lessard (Natick, Mass. / Natick) placed third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:06.87, and added another third behind Fay in the 200 backstroke finishing in 2:21.40. She placed fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:29.25.
McHale, Fogarty, Lessard, and Griffin were the second place finishers in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing in a time of 1:59.04.
Fay, McHale, Sydney Langer (Falls Church, Va. / Falls Church), and Brittany Whitham (Fort Collins, Colo. / Resurrection Christian) finished third in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:03.16.
The Blazers return to the pool when they host Davis & Elkins College on Senior Day in the Huntsinger Aquatics Center on January 18.
