GLENSIDE, Pa. - Hood College's Alex Bodine (Frederick, Md. / Urbana) and Cameron Rogers (Severn, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) each set two pool records to lead the Blazers to a 132-125 win over Arcadia in the season opener for both squads.
Bodine broke the Lenox Pool standards in both the 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard butterfly, while Rogers set marks in the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle events.
Rogers set the first pool record of the day when he touched the wall in the 1,000 free in 10:18.93. Later in the meet, he won the 500 with his record-setting time of 5:02.67. Bodine tallied a 100 back time of 55.11 to win and set the pool record, and repeated the feats in the 100 fly with a time of 54.83.
Freshman Dillon Marier (Dover, Del. / Dover) turned in an impressive collegiate debut, winning two individual events and swimming on a first-place relay. Marier picked up a win the first time he entered the pool, anchoring the 200 medley relay. He teamed with Chris Gardner (Smyrna, Del. / Cab Calloway School of the Arts), BJ Daisey (Lewes, Del. / Sussex Tech) and Bodine to swim a time of 1:41.00.
Marier went on to win both the 50 and 100 free. He edged out Bodine for the win in the 50 by just 0.12 with his time of 22.88. Marier outstretched Arcadia's Anthony Crane in the 100, 51.12 to 51.18.
Daisey joined Marier and Bodine with three victories on the afternoon. The sophomore turned in a 1:03.77 to win the 100-yard breaststroke, then won the 200 breast in 2:22.71.
In all, Hood won nine of the 14 events.
Gardner finished second in both the 200 free and 200 back with his times of 1:55.11 and 2:05.32, respectively. He was also third in the 500 free (5:37.59).
Adding third place finishes for Hood were Eliseo Bell-Uribe (Keizer, Ore. / McNary) and Kenny Garced-Valle (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora). Bell-Uribe was third in the 1,000 free in 13:00.55, with Garced-Valle capturing third in the 100 breast with a time of 1:10.81.
The 200 free relay of Marier, Lucas Mestas-Nunez (Corpus Christi, Texas / Bluff), Jonathan Collier (Darby, Pa. / Home Schooled) and Bell-Uribe was second in 1:33.94.
Hood will look to stay in the win column with a quad meet at Frostburg State featuring Goucher and Stevenson on October 25.
