FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College men's tennis team defended its home courts with a 5-4 win over visiting Albright in Commonwealth Conference play.
The Blazers took two of the three doubles matches. Vladislav Sluchenkov (Vladivostok, Russia / Garmonia) and Richard Hershey (Boonsboro, Md. / Boonsboro) captured an 8-4 win over Thomas Werner and Ian Moore at No. 2 doubles. At third doubles, Luis Cotto (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) and Chad Love (Boonsboro, Md. / Boonsboro) partnered for an 8-5 victory over Sean Purcell and Terrence Goode.
Love capped a 2-0 afternoon with a 6-3, 7-5 victory at fourth singles over Purcell. Tyler Shuck (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) was a 6-1, 6-1 winner against Moor at third singles. Philip Roedig (Farmingdale, N.Y. / St. John the Baptist) sealed the win at fifth singles, notching a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Cain Walter.
Both of Hood's wins this season came against Commonwealth Conference opponents, falling just one win short of reaching the conference tournament.
