Hood Drops Season Opener

FREDERICK, Md. - Freshman Alex Sexton (Mesa, Ariz. / Mesa) won in his collegiate debut, but visiting St. Mary's won the remaining eight matches to defeat Hood College, 8-1.

Sexton, playing fifth singles, won the opening set with Frank DeRose 6-3, but fell 2-6 in the second set before winning a tie breaker 10-7 for the Blazers' lone victory of the afternoon.

His brother, Joshua Sexton (Mesa, Ariz. / Mesa) battled Robert Bishop to a tie breaker at third singles, before falling 6-2, 2-6, 8-10.

Vladislav Sluchenkov (Vladivostok, Russia / Garmonia) and Philip Roedig (Farmingdale, N.Y. / St. John the Baptist) had the closest call in doubles, dropping an 8-4 final against Connor McKissick and Wyatt Paulishak.
