FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College men's swim team defeated Arcadia 140-122 in the season opener for both teams.
The Blazers won nine of the day's 14 events. Dillon Marier (Dover, Del. / Dover) was a four-time winner. Chris Gardner (Smyrna, Del. / Cab Calloway School of the Arts) won three events. Michael Curry (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Catholic) and Cameron Rogers (Severn, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) each won twice.
Gardner, Curry and Marier were joined on the winning 200-yard medley relay by BJ Daisey (Lewes, Del. / Sussex Tech), which swam a 1:40.43.
Marier took first place in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle. He turned in a 22.75 in the 50 and followed it up with a 49.66 in the 100. His final win of the day came in the 200 free relay. Marier anchored a group that began with Ernesto Evans (Upper Marlboro, Md. / Largo), Ryan Franklin (Frederick, Md. / Homeschool) and Matt Ball (Westminster, Md. / Winters Mill), which swam a 1:31.81.
Rogers won both of the distance freestyle events. He won the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:05.87. Later in the meet, his time of 4:55.35 in the 500 free won by over 12 seconds.
Gardner claimed victory in both the 100-yard backstroke and the 200 back. His 55.51 won the 100 and his time of 2:01.59 was good for the win in the 200.
Curry won the 200 free with a time of 1:51.81. He was second to Marier in the 100 free with a 51.60.
Daisey was second in both breaststroke events. In the 100-yard breast, he swam a 1:03.31. His 2:19.75 was just 0.37 seconds off the pace in the 200.
Franklin, who was third in both breaststroke events, placed second in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:06.54.
The Blazers host Frostburg St., Goucher and Stevenson on October 24.
