FREDERICK, Md. - Despite winning eight of the meet's 14 events, the Hood College women's swim team fell 145-114 to visiting Arcadia.
Briana Hand-Solomon (Dover, Del. / Dover) had an impressive collegiate debut, winning three events. Lauren Fogarty (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) and Shannon McHale (Hauppage, N.Y. / Hauppage) each won twice.
Hand-Solomon won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.65. Her time of 26.33 was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle. Hand-Solomon's third win came in the 100 free with a time of 58.68.
Fogarty won both the 200-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley by the closest of margins. She won the 200 fly by just 0.47 seconds, touching the wall in 2:24.44. In the 200 IM, she won by only 0.08 with a 2:22.01. Fogarty was second in the 100 free, swimming a 59.07.
McHale's wins came in the 100 fly and the 200 back. The senior claimed the win in the 100 fly with a time of 1:04.52. She touched in 2:20.06 in the 100 fly, defeating teammate Anne Lessard (Natick, Mass. / Natick) by 2.60 seconds. McHale ended up second to Hand-Solomon in the 100 back with a time of 1:04.51.
Brittany Whitham (Fort Collins, Colo. / Resurrection Christian) won the 200 free and took second place in the 500 and the 1000. Whitham turned in the winning time of 2:07.11 in the 100. Her time of 11:51.91 gave her second in the 1000. She was just 1.1 seconds off the pace in the 500 with a time of 5:42.85.
The Blazers host Frostburg St., Goucher and Stevenson on October 24.
