FREDERICK, Md. - Despite two wins apiece by Cameron Rogers (Severn, Md. / Archbishop Spalding) and Chris Gardner (Smyrna, Del. / Cab Calloway School of the Arts), Hood College fell to visiting Albright 170-90 in Middle Atlantic Conference men's swimming.
Rogers continued his impressive run in the distance freestyle events. He extended his win streak in dual, tri or quad meets to 18 straight in the 500 and 17 in a row in the 1,000. He won the 1,000 free with a time of 10:10.04, over 17 seconds faster than the runner up. Rogers finished first in the 500 yard free with a time of 4:53.88.
Gardner, meanwhile, won both backstroke events and placed second in the 50 free. He claimed a four-second victory in the 100 back in 54.34. In the 200 back, he won by a similar margin with a time of 2:01.94. A 22.92 in the 50 free was good for second place.
BJ Daisey (Lewes, Del. / Sussex Tech) placed second in both breaststroke races. He swam a 1:03.23 in the 100, less than a second off the pace. In the 200, he was the runner up in 2:20.29.
A time of 51.47 in the 100 free gave Ernesto Evans (Upper Marlboro, Md. / Largo) a second place finish.
Ryan Franklin (Frederick, Md. / Homeschool) added a second place finish in the 200 individual medley, completing all four strokes in 2:06.19.
The loss was just the Blazers' second of the season, but Hood remains an impressive 8-2 overall and 6-2 in the Middle Atlantic Conference.
The Blazers travel to Misericordia on January 23 for a 2 p.m. meet.
