Rogers Wins Twice in MAC Quad

FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College's Cameron Rogers won both distance freestyle events to lead the Blazers in a quad meet against FDU-Florham, Messiah and Widener in Middle Atlantic Conference action.

  • Hood defeated Messiah 105-99 and FDU-Florham 144-49.
  • Widener won 136-68 against the Blazers. 

How it Happened

  • Rogers notched two of the Blazers' three individual victories. He won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:14.48 and the 500 free in 4:57.33. Rogers won the 1,000 by 13 seconds, while his margin in the 500 was approximately 7.5 seconds. The senior extended his win streak in dual, tri or quad meets to 21 straight in the 500 and 19 in a row in the 1,000. The streak dates all the way back to midway through his freshman season. 
  • Chris Gardner recorded Hood's other win. He took first in the 100 backstroke in 55.40, just 0.07 ahead of Widener's Michael Grajek. Gardner claimed third in the 100 individual medley in 57.82.
  • Rogers was not the only Blazer to place highly in the distance events as Max Riedel was third in both races. In the 1,000, the sophomore completed the race in 10:39.65. His time of 5:06.72 in the 500 gave him his second third place finish of the day. 
  • BJ Daisey and Ernesto Evans each had a pair of third place finishes. Daisey was third in the 100 butterfly in 56.74 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.00. Evans touched the wall in the 50 free in 22.45 and in the 100 free in 50.07, both good for third place.
  • The Blazers opened the day with a third place finish in the 200 medley relay. Gardner, Daisey, Victor Muleki and Evans combined for a time of 1:41.35. 

Notes

  • Hood improved to 5-2 overall and 3-2 against MAC opponents. 
  • Widener remained undefeated at 6-0, all against conference foes. 
  • FDU-Florham sank to 0-8 and 0-4. 
  • Messiah opened its season at the meet and is 1-2 both overall and in the conference.
