Karen Fenwick

In 1973, Karen Fenwick began teaching riding to both children and adults at North Fork School of Equitation (NFSE) then located in Purcellville, Va. While in Virginia, Fenwick hunted regularly and earned her colors with both Loudoun and Short Hill Hunts. She also competed in the Old Dominion 100 Mile Trail Ride, at local hunter shows and in pairs racing. In 1977, Fenwick became the Director of Campus Riding at Hood College and remained so until the stables were closed in 1985. At that time, NFSE moved to Jefferson,Md., and so did the riding program until Hood College discontinued the sport in 1993.

In 2005, the Hood College Equestrian Team returned to North Fork School of Equitation and Fenwick became co-coach and instructor. In2008, the American National Riding Commission (ANRC) elected Fenwick as an advisory member to the board. Fenwick was presented with the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) ANRC Affiliate Riding Instructor’s Award in 2009.

In the spring of 2010, Fenwick completed her USHJA Category Level I Trainer Certification.
