Hood College

Luis Smith was officially hired July 1, 2026, after spending the 2025-26 season as the volunteer throws coach. Smith will be going into his fourth season coaching at the NCAA level.

Smith oversaw the rapid growth of the throwers at Hood last year, as they combined for a total of 15 meters in new personal bests. This improvement was highlighted by senior Kindal Davis, who threw a new personal best of 11.74 meters in the Weight Throw, which was a 1.5 meter best and 4th All-Time in program history for Hood.

Before joining Hood College, Smith competed and coached at Salisbury University. As a four-year athlete, Smith was a multi-time all-conference award recipient, a three-time letter winner, two-time throws MVP, and conference champion in the shot put and hammer throw events. As a coach for two seasons at Salisbury, Smith oversaw student-athletes to Coast-to-Coast conference championships, All-Conference finishes, and two NCAA DIII National Qualifiers in the discus throw.

Smith grew up in Frederick, and earned a Bachelor's degree in History and Secondary Education in 2023, as well as his Masters in Higher Education and Leadership in 2025 from Salisbury University.
