Evan Freeman

Evan Freeman was named the Head Coach of the Cross Country/Track & Field Programs at Hood College on March 16th, 2026. Freeman enters his 10th year coaching at the NCAA level, spending the previous four years at Towson University.

While at Towson, Freeman was the XC/Distance Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. In his time there, he became the only coach to have a distance athlete win a CAA Championship in Towson program history, with Baara Stewart winning the 2026 Indoor and Outdoor CAA titles in the 800m. Stewart's indoor championship time of 2:07.27 was a school record, and her outdoor time of 2:05.31 was a CAA championship record. Stewart held the school records for Towson outdoors in the 800m (2:04.96) and 1500m (4:29.08), as well as indoors in the DMR (11:48.91), 800m (2:07.27), Mile (4:54.81), 600m (1:31.87) and 1000m (2:53.54). Stewart was the first athlete to ever qualify to the NCAA East First Round in the 800m for Towson and also received the Golden Paw for Towson University Student-Athlete of the Year. In his four year tenure, Towson Track & Field accumulated 156 Top-10 All-Time program marks and 21 school records, with 89 of the Top-10 marks and 11 of the school records coming from student-athletes recruited during Freeman's time as coordinator.

Prior to Towson, Freeman was the assistant cross country/track and field coach at Mississippi College from June 2020-July 2022. He was responsible for programming, coaching and recruiting the women’s cross country team as well as the women’s distance, mid-distance and sprints/jumps/hurdles in track. Freeman led the Lady Choctaws to qualify for their first-ever NCAA Cross Country National Championships, where they ended up placing 24th in the nation. Prior to their 3rd place finish at the NCAA South Regional XC Championships to gain auto qualification to that national meet, the Lady Choctaws had never finished higher than 7th at regionals in program history. In his two years at Mississippi College, Freeman coached 4 NCAA XC All-Region performers, 9 All-GSC XC Performers, 25 All-GSC Track & Field Performers and 9 GSC Track & Field Champions.

Freeman was the assistant cross country/track and field coach at Baldwin University from June 2017-May 2020. He assisted with training, recruiting and meet coordination. During his time with the Yellow Jackets, the women's cross country team won the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship for the first time in program history. The women's cross country team qualified to nationals twice during Freeman's tenure, placing 27th in 2018 and 16th in 2019. Freeman also assisted in coaching several NCAA National qualifiers and NCAA All-Americans, including the 2019 NCAA National Runner-Up in the 800m, Kelly Brennan.

Freeman grew up in Stow, Ohio and graduated from Walsh University in 2017, earning his bachelor's degree in History.
