Alexis Nielson, a two-time NCAA Division I Champion as a playerat the University of Maryland, was named the head field hockeycoach at Hood College during the summer of 2013.

In her first season, the Blazers won one more match than theprevious season, including back-to-back one-goal victories early inthe season. 

Hired at just 25 years old, Nielson was one of just two knownDivision III field hockey coaches that age or younger at the time.On the club level, she was the head coach of the Key State(Harrisburg, Pa.) team that qualified for the national indoortournament in 2010. She also served as head coach of the Spitfire(Crofton, Md.) club in 2011. Nielson has also worked with USA FieldHockey Futures programs in both College Park, Md. and Harrisburg,Pa.

Nielson starred for the Terrapins from 2006-09, helping the teamto a national championship as a freshman. As a junior, she dishedout an assist on the game-winning goal in the NCAA ChampionshipGame.

She played on teams that won Atlantic Coast Conference crownsher junior and senior years. Maryland was 86-8 during her fouryears on campus and set a school record with 23 wins her senioryear.

Nielson capped her career with an All-American honor in 2009after a season in which she dished out 26 assists and scored onegoal. For her career, she had 10 goals and 44 assists. 

Nielson was also a member of the United States Junior NationalTeam that won a gold medal at the Pan-American Games in 2008. Ayear later, she was named to the United States team for the JuniorWorld Cup.
