    Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
Gregory Powers was named the head strength and conditioning coach and director of physical education at Hood College in the summer of 2021.
 
He designs strength and conditioning programs for all of Hood's intercollegiate sports teams, monitors student-athlete performance, and works with head coaches and sports medicine staff in setting performance goals and providing nutritional information. 
 
Powers most recently served as a graduate assistant for strength and conditioning at Division I Mercer University. He worked directly with women’s cross country, women’s track and field, tennis and golf. Powers also helped implement the return to play program for the Bears’ football program during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

In the spring of 2019, Powers 
picked up his first experience at the intercollegiate level when he interned at Division I Georgetown University.  
 
He also brings experience outside of collegiate athletics, serving in a variety of roles at Perfect Performance in Tysons Corner, Virginia. Prior to heading to Mercer, Powers was the assistant general manager at Gold’s Gym in Rockville, Maryland.  

In addition to his role with the athletic department, Powers will oversee and refine the College’s health and wellness area of the undergraduate core curriculum. 
 

Powers earned his Master of Education degree in higher education leadership in May 2021 from Mercer. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in health studies from Howard University in May 2018. 
As an undergraduate, Powers was a member of the Bison football team.  

He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. 
Powers is also certified in adult and pediatric CPR/AED by the American Red Cross.
