Thomas Chatfield

Thomas Chatfield

Thomas Chatfield M'18 has served as Hood's assistant athletic trainer since the fall of 2014 before adding the role of head women's golf coach in January of 2019 and added the same role with the men's golf program in the summer of 2022.

The men’s side in 2026 saw another first-year standout in Griffin Cansler as he broke the 18 hole and 36 hole score records at the Links at Gettysburg and finished strong at the MAC Championship at the Golden Oaks Golf Club tying for 4th good enough for First Team honors. A veteran also rose in the postseason as four-year member got hot and placed 7th for Second Team honors after a boom-or-bust campaign. Chatfield claimed MAC Coach of the Year honors for the women’s side as the squad placed third at the MAC Championships. The squad full of young golfers had continuously lowered their scores to even finish runner up at the MAC Preview and compete well in smaller events.

Hood's women finished fifth at the 2022 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships with a school record score for 36-holes. The team and individual records for 18-holes and the individual 36-hole record were also set during the season. The Blazers obliterated the previous team scoring average by over 60 strokes and five of the top seven season averages in Hood's history took place in 2021-22.

In the spring of 2021, Jenna Frick was named Academic All-Middle Atlantic Conference for the second straight season and became the program's first WGCA Scholar All-American.

Initially serving as the interim coach in the spring of 2019, the Blazer women posted the seventh-best team score of the 13 Middle Atlantic Conference programs at the 2019 MAC Championships.

He joined the staff of both programs in the fall of 2018 as a volunteer assistant and has a golf fitness specialization certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

Before coming to Hood, Chatfield worked as the head athletic trainer at St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown, Md. since 2011. He also served as an assistant athletic director from 2012 until accepting his position at Hood. Chatfield taught physical education and health at St. Maria Goretti High School.

Chatfield received his bachelor's degree from Towson University in 2011 and an MBA from Hood in 2018. While attending Towson University, he served as an athletic training student, assisting with the Tigers' 21 NCAA Division I athletic offerings.
