Heather Silveira '15 returns to her alma mater to join the coaching staff as an assistant in the fall of 2017. She will work primarily with hurdlers and sprinters.
Most recently, Silveira is the co-head coach of indoor track and a volunteer coach of cross country and outdoor track at Cambridge South Dorchester High School in Cambridge, Md. She was also nominated as New Teacher of the Year in Spring 2016.
She currently holds the indoor records at Hood in 55m hurdles, 60m hurdles, 600m, 4x200m relay, and 4x400m relay as well as the outdoor records in 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 4x200m relay, and 4x800m relay. She also holds the overall records in 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 4x400m relay, 4x200m relay, 4x800m relay, and sprint medley.
During her career at Hood, she was a member of Dean's List and earned Dean's Scholarship, the Hypatia Award, and the Athlete of the Year Award. She was also a member of the Least Squares Math Club as well as the Association for Women in Mathematics. She served as the captain of the Hood cross country and track teams for one season each.
She graduated from Hood in May of 2015 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics with a certification in secondary education.
