Molly Evans enters her seventh season with the Blazer women'slacrosse team.
Evans was hired Nov. 13, 2007 and is the fifth women’slacrosse head coach in program history. She took over the squadfrom Staci Brennan who, after five years at the helm, chose tofocus her efforts exclusively on Hood’s field hockeyprogram.
During Hood's inaugural season in the Capital Athletic Conferencein 2008, the Blazers posted a record of 4-12 and 0-7 in the CAC.Evans earned her first career coaching victory March 30, 2008against Hollins University (15-0). Additionally, goalie Lauren Lieb'08 became the first Hood women's lacrosse player to earnall-conference honors with her selection to the second team.
In 2009, Evans mentored the Blazers to a school-record eightvictories (8-7) and its first winning season since 2005. Hood alsoregistered its first CAC victory with a 14-13 triumph over WesleyCollege in its season opener.
In 2010, Hood posted a record of 4-11 overall and finishedeighth in the CAC (0-7). One of Evans' star offensive players,Brandy Noel '10, appeared in Sports Illustrated's Faces in theCrowd section and was chosen as Hood's Most Outstanding SeniorStudent-Athlete at the annual awards banquet.
In 2011, Hood again went 4-11 overall and placed ninth in theCAC (0-8). Kelsey Blackwell '11 became Hood's career scoringleader, finishing her four-year career with 145 points (102 goals,43 assists). In addition, Abby Dyjack '11 was named to the all-CACsecond team, becoming the second Hood women's lacrosse playerhonored with a post-season certificate.
In 2012, Hood finished with an overall record of 2-15 and placedninth in the CAC (0-8). Midfielder Caitlin Lawrence '13 broke thesingle-season school record for goals scored with 43.
Last season, the Blazers began play in the CommonwealthConference and went 3-13 overall, but were winless in eightconference matches. Goalkeeper Lauren Couch was namedAll-Commonwealth Conference Honorable Mention after finishing thirdin Division III in both saves and saves per game.
A 2005 graduate of Western Connecticut State University, Evanswas a four-year starting defender and two-time captain on thewomen’s lacrosse team. She led the Colonials to four straightLittle East Conference tournaments, including a third place finishher senior year. Hesterberg also participated in several WesternConnecticut lacrosse clinics.
In 2006, Evans served as the head lacrosse coach at Mercy HighSchool in Middletown, Conn., where she coached the junior varsitysquad and assisted with the varsity club.
Evans earned a bachelor of science degree in justice and lawadministration and went on to earn an master’s degree incriminal justice at American International College in May 2007. Sheand her busband, Marvin, currently reside in Parkville, Md. withtheir daughters, Marley and Makenna.
