LaPLUME, Pa.—The Hood men's basketball team got off to a sluggish start Wednesday night at Keystone College and despite regrouping in the second half, it wasn't enough.
Keystone had five players reach double-figures and held on for a 74-63 win over the Blazers to avenge an earlier season loss. Hood shot just 26.7 percent (8-for-30) in the first half and dug itself an insurmountable 14-point halftime deficit.
Santo Provenzano led Hood with 19 points and Sean Robine contributed 17. David Wilson finished with 10 points and Darnell Edmonds had eight points and six steals.
Darnell Reed led the Giants with 15 points and Kevin Erb and Andre Stone each had 14.
The loss drops the Blazers to 10-11 in their inaugural season and is their second straight defeat. The Giants, which lost at Hood 76-70 on Jan. 15, improve to 8-18.
For the game, Hood shot 37.5 percent while allowing the Giants to hit on 50.0 percent of their shots. Keystone, behind Stone's eight rebounds, also held a 33-30 edge on the boards and its depth also proved to be a key as its bench outscored Hood's 27-9.
The Blazers return to action at home Monday, Feb. 16, when they host Chestnut Hill College. Hood will be going for the season sweep of the Griffins and looking to improve its home record to 6-1. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
