Men's Basketball Finishes Inaugural Season Above .500

FRONT ROYAL, Va.—The Hood College men's basketball team wrapped up its inaugural season with an 81-76 win at Christendom College on Tuesday night to close its historic year with a winning record.

The Blazers hit 12 3-pointers and Dennis Tressler scored 23 points on the strength of 5-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc to guarantee an above .500 season for Hood at 13-11. The win was also Hood's third straight, its longest winning streak of the season, and clinched a sweep of the season series with the Crusaders.

Darnell Edmonds, David Wilson and Santo Provenzano each chipped in with 15 points each and Hood went 21-for-26 from the line. Pat Vander Woude led the Crusaders with a game-high 33 points.

Hood found itself facing a 20-point deficit, 32-12, with 4:45 to go in the first half, but a spirited 21-4 run closed its gap to just 36-33 at the break.

In the second half, the Blazers managed to stave off Christendom just enough to close out the hard fought road victory.

Sean Robine helped Hood to a 35-29 rebounding edge with a team-high nine boards and Edmonds dished out eight assists to go along with three steals and seven rebounds. Tressler helped out on the defensive end as well with three blocks.

The Crusaders hit 45 percent of their shots from the floor while Hood shot at a 42 percent clip.
