Box Score For more than 89 minutes, Hood College men's soccer goalkeeper Chad Baker did all he could to keep Villa Julie College out of the net. But with just 49 seconds remaining in regulation, Villa Julie's Nick Borozzi found the back of the net to send the visitors home with a 1-0 victory.
Baker ended the match with 13 saves—the second highest total of his career—and the Blazers (1-6) had several chances throughout the match to score, but the Mustangs (4-4) held on and won it on Borozzi's late score.
Derek Wolford touched a pass thru traffic to Borozzi and Borozzi, with his back to the goal from about 10 yards out, chipped a shot past a leaping Baker and just under the crossbar for the game-winner.
The Mustangs outshot the Blazers, 27-10, and goalkeeper Eric Lowman earned the shutout with three saves, the biggest of which came with just 12:30 remaining when he dove to deflect Shane McCarrick's shot.
Baker made four remarkable saves in the second half to keep the contest scoreless. At the 41:10 mark, he dove to save a swirling shot from Eric Breach and just four minutes later, made another diving save on Evan Williams' attempt.
At the 31:25 mark, he leaped to stop Jon Schneehagen's shot and Baker's biggest save of the match came with 3:40 left when he jumped and tipped Breach's header to himself and caught the ball on the way down.
Hood closed its four-match homestand with a 1-3 record and will look to get back on the winning track when it next gets in action Sept. 28 at Catholic University. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
