Box Score FREDERICK, Md.-The Hood College men's soccer team continued its
torrid start to the season Saturday with a 2-0 win over Gallaudet
University.
Thomas Noonan had a goal and an assist and Guillaume Farges added
his team-leading seventh goal of the season to help the Blazers
capture their fifth consecutive win and improve to 6-1.
Goalkeeper Chad Baker recorded his third straight shutout-and
fourth of the season-by coming up with five saves, two of which
came in the game's final minutes.
Hood, which went 1-12 last year, its inaugural season, went ahead
early when Noonan fed a pass through the 18 to Farges, who promptly
placed a shot into the side net at the 7:42 mark.
That lead stood until the 74th minute when Noonan, after being
fouled in the box, converted his penalty kick for his sixth goal of
the season. With less than five minutes to go, Baker, who has
allowed just three goals all season, came up with a pair of saves,
the second of which was diving save on Jim Crane's shot from just
outside the 18.
The physical match featured a total of 38 fouls and four cards, one
of the red variety that was issued to Crane in the final
minute.
The Blazers will look to keep their winning streak alive when they
next get in action Tuesday at home against Centenary College
(N.J.). The match is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
NOTES-Hood entered the contest tied for ninth in NCAA Division III
(as of Sept. 18) in scoring offense with an average of 3.8 goals
per game ? The win matches the longest-ever winning streak by a
men's program at Hood (the men's basketball team won five straight
last year).
