Shenandoah Squeaks by Men's Soccer

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md.-The Hood College men's soccer team's bid to open the season with back-to-back wins ended Wednesday afternoon when Shenandoah University managed one second half goal to upend the Blazers, 1-0.

Each team took 15 shots, but the Hornets' Aaron McGuiness fired off a low-liner that weaved through traffic and past Hood goalkeeper Chad Baker in the 52nd minute to account for the only score of the match. The Blazers (1-1) had one last promising opportunity with just over six minutes to play, but Guillaume Farges' shot from 12 yards out went just wide.

Baker, who recorded a shutout in Hood's opening 8-0 win over Mt. Aloysius on Sunday, had nine saves and Shenandoah (1-1) keeper Chris Peter had seven in the shutout effort.

The match featured six yellow cards, three for each team.

The Blazers gets back in action this weekend when they host their first-ever tournament, the BFPE International Fall Classic. Hood will take on Christendom College at 3 p.m. in the first game and Marywood University and Ferrum College will square off in the second game at 5 p.m.

Sunday's action will put Ferrum and Christendom against each other at 11 a.m. and Hood will take on Marywood at 1 p.m.
