Men's Hoops Stays Hot with Win over Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa.--Junior Santo Provenzano scored a game-high 22 points and freshman Jeff Willison set career high's with 18 points and nine rebounds in just 14 minutes of action as Hood downed Wayneburg 82-65 Tuesday night for its fourth win in a row and seventh victory in its last nine games.

Hood improved to 11-10 overall and is one win away from tying its program record of five straight victories set last season. Waynesburg fell to 11-8.

Willison, who entered the game having recorded a total of 17 points and 13 rebounds in 13 games this season, exploded for 16 points and six rebounds in 12 minutes of the second half alone. He shot 8-of-11 from the floor as Hood hit a blazing 61.8 percent (21-of-34) after the break.

The Blazers held a slight 35-31 halftime lead before taking control with an 18-4 run to start the second half. Provenzano, Willison, freshman Tim Abercrombie and sophomore Jesse Gutekunst each had four points in the outburst.

Willison caught fire midway through the second half, scoring all of Hood's 12 points over a five-minute span. His final basket gave the Blazers a 71-51 cushion with just over five minutes left.

Gutekunst finished with 15 points, four rebounds, three blocks and two steals.

Jeff Linden led Waynesburg with a career-high 21 points, while Jeff Nero added 16. The Yellow Jackets shot just 37.1 percent (26-of-70) from the floor, including 19.2 (5-of-26) from 3-point range.

Hood returns to action Thursday when it hosts Lancaster Bible College at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School at 7 p.m.
