FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's soccer team battled the
visiting Catholic University Cardinals to a 2-2 double overtime
draw Saturday afternoon in a Capital Athletic Conference game at
Thomas Athletic Field. The Blazers move to 5-6-1 overall and 1-4-1
in the CAC, while the Cardinals show a record of 3-6-2 overall,
1-3-1 in the league.
Tom Noonan drew first blood when he scored his team-high 10th
goal of the season off a throw-in from Ben Snyder at the 14:38 mark
of the first half. But the Cardinals tied it up nine minutes later
when Daniel Clifford beat Hood goalie Shawn Fernholz at the 23:40
mark.
The Blazers retook the lead on David Wilson's fifth tally of the
season just before the break (41:22) off a feed from Brandon Garton
to take a 2-1 edge into halftime.
Catholic drew even once again when Chris Barr crossed the ball
to David Hidalgo who scored the equalizer for the visitors.
In an extremely physical game, one player on each side received
red cards which forced the two teams to play 10-on-10 for the
entire second half and both overtime sessions. But, neither team
found the back of the net in the extra session. Fernholz finished
with six saves for Hood while Joe Schettino stopped eight shots for
Catholic.
The Blazers return to action Tuesday against CAC foe Mary
Washington in Fredericksburg, Va., at 4 p.m.
