BALTIMORE, Md.--The College of Notre Dame (Md.) defeated the
Hood College women's basketball team, 70-29, in the Atlantic
Women's Colleges Conference opener for both schools Wednesday
evening at the Knott Athletic Complex.
The Blazers fall to 0-11 on the season and 0-1 in the AWCC while
the Gators improve to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
The Gators scored the first 10 points of the contest until
senior Tamara Maggard snapped the drought with a jumper at the
14:00 mark. But the Blazers connected on just four field goals the
rest of the half and trailed 32-12 at intermission.
Hood was unable to cut into the deficit in the second half. The
Gators scored twice as many field goals as the Blazers and
connected on 13-of-16 from the foul line.
Freshman Jennifer Willison led Hood with 10 points, eight
rebounds and two steals, while senior Dana Shook chipped in seven
points, two assists, two steals and two rebounds. Sara Wastler and
Sara Hartlaub netted four points apiece and Brianna Raithel and
Maggard each tallied one field goal.
The Blazers return to Gambrill Gymnasium Sunday for the first
time since Dec. 4 when they host AWCC foe Mary Baldwin College at 2
