FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's and women's swim teams
swept a non-conference meet from the visiting Frostburg State
University Bobcats Wednesday at the Hood Aquatics Center. The
Blazer men (4-6) clinched an 81-76 victory on the final relay,
while the Hood women (6-9) won seven events en route to a 96-75
win.
Stu Kaufman, Matt Haynes and Jason Kinder all won two individual
events. That trio along with Fran Pedersen held off Frostburg's 400
free relay squad in 3:36.16 to seal the victory.
Kaufman won both the 1000 free (11:07.73), dropping his
season-best by 29 seconds, and the 500 free in a season-low
5:27.69. Haynes owned the sprints, setting season-bests in the 50
free (22.91) and the 100 free (51.79). Kinder captured the 200
individual medley (2:12.00) and the 200 back (2:10.66), both
season-lows.
On the women's side, Amy Kaufman swept the distance events and
Katie Hitchens took top honors in the sprints. Kaufman won the 1000
free (11:28.00) and the 500 free (5:36.00), besting her season-low
by a second in each event. Hitchens set the pace in the 50 free
(26.37) and the 100 free (59.66). Other winners for the Blazers
included Ashley Garyn in the 200 free (2:14.19) and Erica Hamor in
the 200 fly (2:37.77).
The Blazers close out the regular season Saturday against Penn
State Altoona at 1 p.m. at the Hood Aquatics Center.
