FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's soccer team (4-7, 1-5
CAC) dropped a 3-1 decision to the visiting St. Mary's College
(Md.) (5-6, 3-2 CAC) Monday afternoon in a Capital Athletic
Conference at Thomas Athletic Field.
Mike Rohrs got the Seahawks on the board in the 30th minute when
he headed in a corner kick from Mikael Tigrett. St. Mary's outshot
Hood 16-6 in the first half but Shawn Fernholz turned away four
Seahawk attempts to keep the margin at just one goal.
But in the second half, the Seahawks scored a pair of goals in a
span of 3:34 to quickly assume a 3-0 advantage. Chad Henry knocked
in a cross from Alex Pyzik in the 63rd minute and Tigrett fed Cyrus
Albertson with a through ball in the 66th minute.
Hood's Quinn Miller netted his third goal of the season in the
82nd minute off a cross from Shane McCarrick to cut the deficit to
3-1. But the Blazers were unable to get another shot off the rest
of the game.
Fernholz tallied 10 saves in the losing cause.
The Blazers return to action Thursday at Columbia Union College
at 5 p.m.
