FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's basketball team (12-4,
6-1 CAC) connected on 35-of-40 from the foul line to secure a 69-56
Capital Athletic Conference victory over Villa Julie College (5-11,
3-4 CAC) Saturday.
Hood remains in first place in the CAC standings and improves to
3-1 all-time against Villa Julie.
The Blazers and Mustangs combined for just nine field goals in
the first 20 minutes and Hood held a narrow 21-17 lead at the
break. The Blazers led by as many as 13 in the second half but
Villa Julie used a 14-2 run to close to within one, 37-36, midway
through the period.
But Hood never lost the lead and used solid free-throw shooting
to capture their fourth straight win and eighth in nine games. Hood
drilled 17-of-18 from the stripe in the final 5:50 to keep the
Mustangs at bay.
Hood finished one foul shot shy of tying the single-game school
record of 36 set against Mt. Aloysius back on Nov. 23, 2004. The
Mustangs outrebounded the Blazers 19-8 on the offensive glass but
connected on just 23.5 percent (16-of-68) of their shots from the
floor.
Junior Ryan Junghans led all scorers with 26 points, including a
perfect 10-of-10 from the line, and freshman Mark McGlone
registered the first double-double of his Blazer career with
career-highs of 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Hood takes its unblemished 5-0 road victory to CAC foe Salisbury
University Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
