FREDERICK, Md.--In a game that featured five yellow cards and
one ejection, the Hood College men's soccer team snagged its
first Capital Athletic Conference win of the season with a 2-1
overtime win over Gallaudet University Saturday at Thomas Athletic
Field.
The Blazers (4-7, 1-2 CAC) scored the first goal of the evening
on a penalty kick by freshman J.T. Smaldore with 14 minutes
remaining in the second half. Just when a Hood victory looked
inevitable, Gallaudet's Jonathan Penny tied the game, 1-1,
with eight seconds to play, sending the game into overtime.
At the 96:06 mark, Hood junior Adam Gilbert sent the ball over
the head of the Bison goalie from about 30 feet out for his first
career goal to give the Blazers the win. Smaldore registered the
assist on Gilbert's game-winner.
Hood, which snapped a five-game losing skid, outshot Gallaudet
(0-12, 0-5 CAC) 34-4 in the match.
The Blazers travel to St. Mary's College (Md.) Wednesday
for a CAC contest.
