FREDERICKSBURG, Va.--The Hood College men's basketball team
(3-4, 0-2 CAC) dropped its second straight Capital Athletic
Conference decision, 77-68, to the University of Mary Washington
(3-3, 2-0 CAC) Friday evening at Goolrick Gym.
Hood raced out to a 9-2 lead within the first four minutes, but
the Eagles responded with a 12-0 run, forcing the Blazers to call
timeout. Hood closed to within 24-22 with 2:48 to play on a J'Air
Brady layup but a three-pointer by Ben Stokes and a layup by
Kiernan Whitworth gave UMW a 29-22 edge at halftime.
The Eagles never trailed in the second half, though Hood did
close to within one possession of tying it on several occasions. A
Herb Bowen layup made it 61-58 Mary Washington with 5:29 left in
regulation but the Blazers would get no closer the rest of the way.
Ryan Junghans and Tim Abercrombie keyed the Blazer offense with
16 points apiece while Brady recorded his first career
double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Brandon Altmann was a force in the post, finishing with
game-highs of 20 points and 17 rebounds.
The Blazers are idle until Dec. 29 when they travel to the
Hampden-Sydney College tournament to take on John Carroll
University in the opening round.
