FREDERICK, Md.--The No. 25 Marymount University Saints (19-2,
11-1 CAC) registered their seventh straight victory Saturday in a
72-42 triumph over the Hood College women's basketball team (4-17,
2-11 CAC) at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School.
The Saints opened the ballgame with a 14-2 spurt over the first
five minutes and didn't let up the rest of the half, taking a 41-18
lead into the break. Marymount connected on nearly 60 percent of
its shots and limited the Blazers to just eight field goals in the
first 20 minutes.
The halftime deficit was too much for the Blazers, who shot just
32.7 percent from the field for the game.
Jen Willison and Whitney Schultheis netted 10 points apiece in
the losing cause. Jessica Parrish came off the bench to hit 4-of-7
from the floor for eight points while Allyson Lethbridge finished
with seven and Sara Wastler buried a pair of three-pointers for six
points. Christi Valdez hit 1-of-2 from the foul line and grabbed a
pair of rebounds.
Kathleen Brown keyed the Saints' offense with 15 points and nine
boards, while Beth Wiggins tallied 13 points off the bench.
The Blazers return to action Tuesday hosting Wesley College in a
CAC game at 6 p.m. The contest was originally slated for Wednesday
but was moved to Tuesday due to a scheduling conflict.
