OWINGS MILLS, Md.--The Hood College men's basketball team (5-11,
2-5 CAC) dropped a narrow 79-75 decision to the Stevenson
University Mustangs (4-12, 3-4 CAC) Wednesday evening in a Capital
Athletic Conference clash at the Student Union Gymnasium.
The first half was a seesaw affair which featured eight ties and
14 lead changes. The two teams went into the lockerroom deadlocked
at 38-38.
At the start of the season half, Keith Holtman and Greg Woody
netted back-to-back baskets for Stevenson to give the Mustangs a
four-point edge and a lead they would not surrender. The Blazers
would rally to tie the score at 61-61 on a Tim Abercrombie layup
with 7:43 to play in regulation. But the Blazers were unable to
sink the go-ahead bucket and the Mustangs hung on for the win.
J'Air Brady paced the Blazers with 15 points while Jeff Willison
finished with his first career double-double of 12 points and a
team-best 11 rebounds. Brenden Straughn also added 12 points while
Abercrombie finished with 10. Chris Carson tallied a career-high
eight points, three rebounds and two assists off the bench while
Rian McHenry matched his season-high with seven points.
