YORK, Pa.--The Hood College men's basketball team (5-13, 2-7
CAC) dropped a 77-62 decision to the York College (Pa.) Spartans
(6-13, 4-6 CAC) in a Capital Athletic Conference game Wednesday
evening.
The Blazers and Spartans traded baskets for the first part of
the first half. With the score knotted at 18-18 at the 9:24 mark,
Hood's Garrett Williams was fouled on a three-point attempt. He hit
all three foul shots to put the Blazers up 21-18 and consecutive
buckets by Chris Leggett gave Hood its largest lead of the half,
25-18, with 7:44 left. But York held the Blazers without a basket
for the final 3:17 of the period and a Mike Atkins layup in the
final two minutes drew the Spartans to within 33-32. That score
would stand at the break.
York stormed out of the gates in the second half, outscoring the
Blazers 20-6 over the first seven minutes to assume a 52-37 lead.
Hood closed the gap to six on a J'Air Brady layup with 4:09 to play
in regulation, but Nick Brady knocked down two jumpers, one from
distance, to push the lead back to 11 and ice the victory for York.
Brady paced the Blazers with 16 points while Leggett earned his
first career start and chipped in a career-high nine points.
York's Brady led all scorers with 31 points on 11-of-18 shooting
including five triples. Andrew Pawlyk notched a double-double off
the bench with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Hood returns home Saturday to host the University of Mary
Washington, currently in second place in the CAC. Tip time is set
for 4 p.m.
