WASHINGTON, D.C.--Freshman Brenden Straughn pumped in a
career-high 23 points to power the Hood College men's basketball
team (4-8, 1-2 CAC) to an 84-63 Capital Athletic Conference victory
over the Gallaudet University Bison (7-2, 0-3 CAC) Wednesday
evening.
Straughn hit 7-of-16 from the field, including two
three-pointers, and 7-of-8 from the foul line to go along with six
rebounds (also a career-best), five assists and five steals.
Garrett Williams and Tim Abercrombie tallied 15 points apiece and
combined for five triples, helping the Blazers snap a seven-game
losing skid and capture their first CAC win of the season. Hood has
now won five in a row against the Bison and improves to 6-2
all-time against Gallaudet.
The Blazers got significant production from a variety of
players, considering the Bison limited Hood's leading scorer, J'Air
Brady, to just 1-of-5 from the field. Tyler Snoots came off the
bench to net six points and a team-high eight rebounds while Rian
McHenry had his most productive outing of the season, hitting
3-of-4 from the floor for seven points. Anthony Bennett also had a
solid game, contributing in seven points, six rebounds and three
assists. Chris Leggett knocked down a three-pointer and Chris
Carson connected on 1-of-3 from the floor.
The Blazers return to Gov. Thomas Johnson High School Saturday
for the first time since Nov. 25 to host CAC rival St. Mary's
College (Md.) in the second game of a doubleheader with the women's
team. The Blazers and Seahawks will tip at approximately 4 p.m.
