WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Hood College men's soccer team (3-12, 1-6
CAC) put the skids on a five-game losing streak with a 5-0 Capital
Athletic Conference triumph over the Gallaudet University Bison
(0-17, 0-7 CAC) Friday evening.
The Blazers also registered their first conference win of the
fall and improved to 5-0 all-time against the Bison.
Senior Carlin Rabie scored a goal in each half to bring his
team-leading total to four. Rabie got the Blazers on the board in
the 24th minute off a Jaime Ramirez corner kick. Ramirez picked up
his fourth assist of the season on the score.
Less than three minutes later, senior Shawn Fernholz found the
back of the net for the first time in his Blazer career off a feed
from freshman Zach Salisbury. After serving as Hood's starting
goalkeeper virtually his entire career in the blue and gray,
Fernholz finally was able to add a goal to his impressive resume.
Hood maintained the 2-0 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, Rabie struck again when he booted one into
the lower left corner of the net in the 61st minute. Two more
Blazers recorded their first scores of the season. Salisbury
finished a cross from senior Corey DeMaster in the 66th minute and
junior Derrick Kuhn blasted one past Bison netminder Poloko Qobose
in the 75th minute.
Freshman William Lane posted the first shutout of his career,
rejecting all three Gallaudet attempts on target.
Hood wraps up the regular season Wednesday at CAC foe York
College (Pa.) at 3:30 p.m.
