YORK, Pa.--The Hood College men's soccer team (3-13, 1-7 CAC)
hung with the No. 5 York College (Pa.) Spartans (13-1-4, 6-0-2 CAC)
in the first half, but the hosts used a strong second half to earn
a 3-0 victory and remain unbeaten in conference play.
Hood put up a valiant fight in its regular season finale against
the Spartans, who have advanced to four straight NCAA tournaments.
Despite being outshot 14-1 in the first period, the Blazers did not
surrender a Spartan goal, becoming one of only nine opponents
(three in the CAC) to make that claim this season. Hood's lone shot
attempt of the contest came off the foot of Conor Prachar in the
28th minute.
Freshman keeper William Lane matched his career-high with 14
saves and allowed three goals, the fewest Hood has surrendered to
the Spartans in five meetings (matches the effort of the 2006 squad
in the CAC tournament).
YCP's Brett Sauerberger, Mike O'Connell and Antonio Bua all
notched single tallies while netminders Ryan Hock and Kyle Connolly
combined for the shutout.
