DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.--The Hood College men's basketball team
(6-3) won its fourth straight game Monday, defeating the Eastern
University (Pa.) Eagles (6-4), 61-38, at the Land of Magic
Tournament hosted by Embry-Riddle University in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The 38 points allowed are four away from equaling the school
record of 34 scored by Patrick Henry College during the 2005-06
season. Hood also halted Eastern's five-game win streak.
After the Eagles recorded the first six points of the contest,
the Blazers reeled off nine straight markers to assume a lead they
would not surrender the rest of the night. In fact, after allowing
three Eastern baskets in the first 2:17, the Blazers limited the
Eagles to just three more field goals the remainder of the half and
took a 28-15 lead into halftime.
Eastern got no closer than 11 in the second half as the Blazers
shot an even 50.0% from the field (24-of-48) for the game.
Hood also held a tremendous rebounding advantage, 41-17.
Senior J'Air Brady led the way for Hood with 18 points,
including three treys, to go along with three assists and five
steals. Sophomore Tory Wilson registered his second double-double
in the blue and grey with 14 points and a game-high 10 boards, and
Brenden Straughn also reached double digits with 10 points and a
pair of assists. Freshman Justin Stone came off the bench to haul
in seven defensive boards, matching his career-high, in addition to
hitting 2-of-3 from the field for four points.
Hood returns to the hardwood Tuesday night when it squares off
against the host Embry-Riddle Eagles at 7:30 p.m.
