ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.--The Hood College men's basketball team
(6-15, 3-9 CAC) suffered an 84-63 setback to the St. Mary's College
(Md.) Seahawks (17-4, 10-2 CAC) Wednesday in Capital Athletic
Conference action.
Hood led 6-5 in the opening minutes but a 19-5 Seahawk run
allowed St. Mary's to grab a double-figure advantage, 24-11, with
11:44 to play in the first half. A trey by Garrett Williams drew
the Blazers to within nine at the five-minute mark, but that would
be as close as the Blazers would get as the Seahawks took a 43-31
lead into the lockerroom.
St. Mary's led by as many as 23 in the second half and
maintained the sizeable advantage on the strength of a 54.8
shooting percentage from the field.
Tim Abercrombie topped the Blazer scoring chart with 14 points
while Williams finished with 12 and J'Air Brady added 11.
SMC's Camontae Griffin connected on 10-of-18 from the floor for
a game-high 24 points to help the Seahawks win their 13th straight
home game dating back to the 2007-08 season. Mike Fitzpatrick
buried four threes for 14 points while Alex Franz also had 14 and
dished six assists.
The Blazers next travel to Marymount University Saturday to face
the Saints at 4 p.m.
