MIDDLETOWN, Pa.--The Hood College volleyball team (0-3) suffered
a heartbreaking 3-2 loss (15-25, 25-14, 25-23, 22-25, 12-15) to the
Penn State University-Harrisburg Nittany Lions (3-1) Thursday
evening in nonconference action.
After dropping the first set 25-15, the Blazers came back to
capture the next two sets, including a narrow 25-23 win in the
third set, to take a 2-1 lead in the match. But the Nittany Lions
upended Hood in the fourth set, 25-22, to force a decisive fifth
set. PSUH emerged victorious in the final set, 15-12, to improve to
3-1 on the young season.
Senior Ashley Burns and freshman Brittany Tribett both
registered double-doubles in the match. Burns contributed 19 digs
and 11 kills to go along with seven aces while Tribett set up a
season-high 31 Blazer kills and collected 10 digs.
Junior Chelsea Weaver spearheaded Hood's defensive effort with
22 digs. Junior Kristan Hawkins put down five kills and posted four
total blocks and junior Kristina Straub tallied eight kills and
finished with 12 digs.
Freshman Brittany Lethbridge chipped in with three kills, one
dig and one block assist and sophomore Megan Heidel had one kill
and a pair of digs.
Hood makes its home debut at Gambrill Gymnasium Tuesday against
regional rival Johns Hopkins University at 7 p.m.
