FREDERICK, Md.--Senior forward Paul Decker scored the golden
goal in the 103rd minute for the Marymount University Saints
(5-3-1, 1-0 CAC) to clinch a 1-0 double overtime win over the Hood
College men's soccer team (1-7, 0-2 CAC) Saturday afternoon at
Thomas Athletic Field.
The Saints held a commanding edge in shot differential, booting
25 attempts to Hood's five. But it wasn't until the second overtime
period that the visitors found the back of the net. Decker netted
an unassisted score 2:36 into the second OT to give Marymount its
first Capital Athletic Conference win of the fall.
The Blazers' lone shot on goal came off the foot of senior Quinn
Miller in the ninth minute of the first half, but his attempt was
turned away by William Brahmstedt.
Senior Shawn Fernholz came up with six saves, including a pair
in the first extra session.
"That was the best match we have played as a team all year,"
said sophomore defender/midfielder Doug Raftery. "The team is
really motivated for Tuesday."
Hood steps out of conference play Tuesday to travel to
Waynesburg University for a 7 p.m. match.
