Blazer Men Stumble at Wesley, 63-58

DOVER, Del.--Junior Reco Siler matched his career-high with 18 points for the Hood College men's basketball team (12-9, 7-5 CAC) in a 63-58 Capital Athletic Conference setback to the Wesley College Wolverines (13-6, 7-4 CAC) Wednesday evening at Wentworth Gymnasium.

Siler was the star of the opening half, hitting a sizzling 8-of-9 from the field for 16 of Hood's 30 first-half points in his 18 minutes of work. The rest of the team connected on 5-of-19 field goal attempts in the first 20 minutes. Hood took a 30-25 lead into the locker room.

Wesley worked quickly to erase that deficit at the onset of the second half, outscoring the Blazers 15-4 in the first 4:25 to assume a six-point edge (40-34). Hood responded with six straight markers to knot the score at 40-40, but Wesley used another spurt to assume a double-figure lead, 52-42, with 6:42 to go in regulation.

After stretching the lead to as many as 13, Hood would draw to within six with 2:19 left on J'Air Brady's team-best 27th three-pointer of the season. In fact, Brady scored Hood's final nine points of the period but it was not enough as the Wolverines hung on for their sixth straight win of the season.

The loss drops the Blazers into fifth place in the CAC, while Wesley climbs into a tie with Salisbury University for third place.

Siler matched his career-high of 18 points set previously against St. Mary's College (Md.) in the Pride of Maryland Tournament back in November. He also pulled down a team-best nine rebounds, dished three assists and had a pair of steals. Brady finished with 15 points while Justin Stone came off the bench to contribute nine. The Blazers also outrebounded the Wolverines, 43-35.

Paul Reynolds matched Siler's 18-point effort and hauled in 10 caroms for a double-double for Wesley. Rudy Thomas drilled three of Wesley's five triples for 13 points.

Hood's next game is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6, against Gallaudet University at the Odom Fitness Center at Fort Detrick. Due to anticipated inclement weather in the region this weekend, please check www.hoodahtletics.com for updates on the status of this contest.
