Box Score TOWSON, Md.--Junior Chris Mendez of the Hood College men's
soccer team (0-1) notched his first goal of the season and the
third of his career in the 29th minute, but it was not enough as
the Goucher College Gophers (1-0) scored four times in a span of
13:31 in the second half to snag a 4-1 nonconference win Wednesday
evening.
The Blazers took their slim 1-0 lead into the break, but the
Gophers outshot the Blazers 11-4 in the final 45 minutes and found
the back of the net four times. Elijah Lias assisted on three of
the Gophers' goals and notched one of his own in the 74th minute to
cap the scoring for the hosts.
Freshman Nickolas May made his first collegiate start in the net
and turned aside six Goucher shot attempts.
The Blazers look to even up their record Saturday when they open
a five-game homestand against the La Roche College Redhawks at 3:30
p.m. in the second game of a soccer doubleheader at Thomas Athletic
Field.
