Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md.--The Hood College women's soccer team (2-4)
surrendered two second-half goals which proved to be the difference
in a 2-0 nonconference setback at the hands of the Washington
College Shorewomen (2-1-1) Tuesday afternoon.
Hood had several chances early, firing six shots on target in
the first 20:30, but all six attempts were saved by netminder Tori
Ripple. Hood's starting keeper, Rachelle Buhrman, also held her
ground, denying all six Washington shots in the first stanza.
Senior Cara Jordan nearly had a chance to give the Blazers a 1-0
cushion heading into halftime, but her attempt was turned aside by
Ripple just before the halftime horn.
Junior Kirsten Cacciola took over the goalkeeping duties in the
second half and rejected the first three shots she faced. But WC's
Kira Pancotti finally got the Shorewomen on the board in the 73rd
minute. Pancotti finished a one-touch from Katie Weida, who
collected a cross from Gabby Devaud.
Then 13:21 later, Gabby Antalffy pocketed her first goal of the
season off a Kim McClellan corner kick. Hood was unable to get off
another shot the rest of the way as the Shorewomen hung on for the
victory.
Ripple finished with 11 saves for the hosts while Cacciola made
four stops in defeat.
Washington outshot Hood, 20-14, though Hood showed a 10-5
advantage in corner kicks.
The Blazers look to put an end to their four-game skid Saturday
at Capital Athletic Conference foe Marymount University. The
Blazers and Saints kick off at 11 a.m. Hood has blanked Marymount
in each of its previous three meetings since joining the CAC.
