Box Score FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's soccer team (2-3, 0-1
CAC) gave the No. 11 Salisbury University Sea Gulls (6-0-1, 1-0
CAC) all they could handle Wednesday afternoon in a narrow 1-0
setback in the Capital Athletic Conference opener for both
schools.
The Blazer defense was tested throughout the match but answered
the call on virtually every opportunity. Hood kept the perennial
CAC powerhouse off the scoreboard for the first 72 minutes of the
contest, before Phil Bucheimer flicked a pass from Ian Wilson just
inside the near post.
Will Lane put forth a tremendous effort in the net, stopping
nine Sea Gull shots, including some at point blank range. Lane
stuffed Ben DeLisle in the 56th minute to preserve the scoreless
draw and the Sea Gulls had another prime chance waved off due to an
offsides call in the 68th minute. Conor Prachar, Eric Diehl and Aaron Crone
spearheaded the solid defensive effort by the Blazers, thwarting
several Salisbury scoring chances.
Jaime
Ramirez and J.T. Smaldore fired
Hood's only shots of the contest, but both sailed wide of the
target.
Despite being outshot 33-2, Hood limited the Sea Gulls to a
single goal, the fewest the Blazers have surrendered to SU in their
six all-time meetings.
Hood wraps up its five-match homestand Saturday hosting
Waynesburg University at 4 p.m.
