Box Score FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's soccer team (3-5, 1-2
CAC) snapped a four-game slide in a big way, recording their
first-ever victory over the Marymount University Saints (2-6-1,
0-2-1 CAC) with a narrow 1-0 triumph in a crucial Capital Athletic
Conference clash at Thomas Athletic Field Saturday.
Sophomore Will Lane was flawless in the net, making a
season-high 12 saves on the day, including several at point blank
range. Lane recorded his third collegiate shutout and helped the
Blazers defeat the Saints for the first time in five all-time
meetings. The Blazers, who avenged a crushing 1-0 double-overtime
defeat to MU at Thomas Athletic Field last year, also matched their
win total from 2009.
Junior Mat Dybala notched the game-winner for the Blazers in the
20th minute off a cross from classmate Chris Mendez. The score was
Dybala's third of the season and fourth of his career.
Marymount outshot the Blazers, 18-11, but was unable to find the
back of the net and remained winless in CAC action on the
season.
Hood's next matchup is slated for Tuesday against nonleague
rival Shenandoah University at 3:30 p.m. at Thomas Athletic
Field.
